American Legion Post 854 hosted a Flag Day ceremony on June 14 outside of its headquarters on Roosevelt Avenue. Unserviceable flags were burned, which is the proper way to dispose of old and tattered American flags. Local Girl Scouts joined veterans in the ceremony.

The flag was also celebrated at the Robert W. Carbonaro School that afternoon. Students performed a choreographed routine featuring the flag. Michael Zervos, who recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan, presented the school with a flag that flew there during his service. His daughter is in kindergarten there.
