Posted

Buses will replace train service between the West Hempstead and Valley Stream stations from 9:21 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. beginning Monday, Dec. 1 and lasting 15 consecutive weekdays, through Friday, Dec. 19, while workers do maintenance on the Long Island Rail Road.

Riders traveling east can reach Valley Stream by train, then board a bus that will stop at all stations from Westwood to West Hempstead. Up to 18 minutes of additional travel time should be expected, according to the MTA.

Riders traveling west will board buses at all stations from West Hempstead through Westwood up to 19 minutes later than normal departure times, then travel to Valley Stream where regular service will resume. Up to 24 minutes of additional travel time should be expected.

The work on the single main track between Valley Stream and West Hempstead will install new railroad ties and resurface areas along the route. It was scheduled for the off-peak period to avoid affecting rush-hour commuters.
