Police said an enraged employee threw a muffler at a car and fired shots at his workplace in Valley Stream after being fired on Aug. 15 at 3:27 p.m.

Christopher Hicks, 32, of Valley Stream, was arrested and charged with attempted assault for the incident, which occurred at County Truck and Auto, located at 140 E. Merrick Rd., according to the Nassau County Police Department.

After being fired, police said Hicks “became enraged,” and hurled a muffler at a car, which caused about $3,000 worth of damage.

He then retrieved a handgun from his car, returned to the shop and fired two shots into the open bay where several employees were working, police said, almost striking one employee in the head.

Police said Hicks fled the scene in his car. He was found in his house on North Corona Avenue shortly after, where he was arrested.

Hicks was charged with first-degree attempted assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment and two counts of second-degree criminal mischief. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 16 at First District Court in Hempstead.
