“We need long-term strategic planning and an efficient government that puts Nassau back on track,” said Haber. “Mangano’s State of the County Address is more of the same, speaking out both sides of his mouth. Mangano says that taxes have not gone up but Nassau’s middle class families know they are being squeezed by paying more fees, while government services are getting cut.”

“Now more than ever, we need a county executive with vision to lead us out of these difficult times and into a better future,” said Abrahams. “Sadly, it is clear that the Mangano administration has no vision and no long-term plan for our future.”

At the outset of his address, Mangano took pauses to acknowledge the families of several individuals whose lives were lost recently. Police Officers Arthur Lopez and Joseph Oliveri, Highway Patrol Officer Michael Calafino and Nassau County Presiding Officer Peter J. Schmitt were all honored.

Mangano, who received a standing ovation at the beginning and end of his address, made a point about the importance of bipartisanship and thanked friends for supporting him—but not before taking one final jab at Suozzi.

“Nassau still faces fiscal hurdles and Post Hurricane Sandy challenges, most of which can be overcome through bipartisan cooperation and hard work,” said Mangano. I am confident we will meet these challenges head on. For the first time, our citizens’ voices are being heard louder than special interests.”
