The Valley Stream Green Hornets youth football league kicked off its 63rd season with a pep rally at Firemen’s Field on the evening of Sept. 8.

Players from the Pee Wee, Midget, Pony Green, Pony White and varsity teams were introduced to the crowd, which filled the bleachers. The cheerleaders performed several routines to fire up the fans.

The first games were played on Saturday and Sunday, with the Pee Wee, Pony Green and Pony White teams all victorious. The varsity team begins its season with a home game against Plainedge on Sept. 15 at 2 p.m.

Homecoming weekend is Oct. 13, with a slate of five games at Firemen’s Field. The football field is named for Green Hornets founder and longtime coach, Bob Hawkey.
