It’s time to play ball in Valley Stream

It didn’t feel quite like spring training in Florida, but it didn’t feel like opening day in Minnesota either. With cloudy skies and slightly below normal temperatures, the Valley Stream Little League opened its 55th season at Firemen’s Field last Saturday morning.

Players, along with their parents and coaches, gathered in the stands for opening ceremonies on April 13. Softball player Ariana Picillo made her debut singing the National Anthem, which was followed by Mayor Ed Fare throwing out the ceremonial first pitch of the season.

League President Steve Dignam thanked the volunteer coaches, sponsors and dignitaries on hand. Many players took part in the league’s free winter skills clinics.

Games began last Saturday and will continue through mid-June at various fields throughout Valley Stream.
