Lone suspect escapes after robbery at Valley Stream Dime Savings Bank

The Nassau County Police Department has released an initial report on the robbery and has confirmed that the suspect in the robbery was armed.

Police said the suspect entered the Dime Savings Bank at 10:18 a.m. on Sept. 23 and verbally announced a robbery while displaying a handgun. The suspect fled the scene after obtaining an undetermined amount of U.S. currency. There were five employees and one customer present at the time of the robbery, but no injuries have been reported.

The report describes the suspect as a black male, 6 feet, wearing a white fedora hat, black cloth mask, white dress shirt, a blue button down sweater and black dress pants.

Detectives with the NCPD are asking that anyone with information regarding the robbery to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.

One suspect is on the loose after a robbery at the Dime Savings Bank at 175 West Merrick Road late in the morning of Sept. 23.

Police at the scene said the investigation is ongoing but confirmed that no customers or employees were injured during the robbery. Police would not say whether the suspect was armed or what was taken.

The bank was the scene of an attempted robbery in December of 2013. There have been 52 robberies in 2014 so far in Nassau County, a nearly two-fold rise from the 27 committed during the same time period in 2013.
