Musician brings books alive at Willow Road

Posted

Students at the Willow Road School sang, danced and brought book titles to life at an “interactive concert” led by a professional singer and songwriter on Oct. 16.

Lee Knight and her partner, Laura Williams, led two assemblies in which students and teachers dressed in costume, sang songs and used props to act out scenes from popular children’s books. The program, Books Alive, was created by Knight to support Common Core learning standards and encourage students in kindergarten through grade 6 to gain a love of reading.

Students were encouraged to go on stage to perform. Students in grades 3 through 6 acted out scenes from books including Matilda, Harry Potter, Chocolate Fever, Wonder and Hatchet. Students from kindergarten through grade 2 worked with scenes from books including Strega Nona, Mean Jean The Recess Queen, Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type, Charlie The Caterpillar, Matilda, Gingerbread Baby and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
