Police: Man bought dog with fraudulent credit card in Merrick

A Uniondale man has been arrested for allegedly buying a dog from a Merrick pet store using a fraudulent credit card.

According to Nassau County Police, Victor X. Franco, of Liberty Street, bought a dog for $3,592 at The Puppy Store, at 1163 Merrick Avenue with the card and a fraudulent driver’s license on Nov. 20.

Franco also, on Aug. 15, purchased a $243 cell phone from a Uniondale store on Jerusalem Avenue with a fraudulent card.

Police arrested Franco on Tuesday. He is charged with third-degree grand larceny, four counts of second-degree possession of forged instrument and first-degree identity theft. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday in Hempstead First District Court.

According to court records, Franco also recently pleaded guilty to a possession of a forged instrument charge that occurred in July 2015. He is represented by Legal Aid, who do not comment on cases.
