Dial 211 for resource services

Posted

Nassau County residents can dial 211 for United Way's free, non-emergency information service that connects Long Island residents to health and human services they may need regularly or during a disaster.

United Way of Long Island is a nonprofit organization that updates and manages the database daily and provides website visitors with detailed information about more than 10,000 community resources. Some examples of database services include job training, heating emergencies, financial or legal counseling, mortgage/rent assistance and substance abuse.

In addition to the full database, there are also special searches for specific populations including veterans’ services, developmentally disabled services and informational updates during weather emergencies. This information, as well as a community calendar of events, can also be viewed through multimedia platforms including Facebook and Twitter.

The Middle Country Public Library in Selden maintains and updates the database and offers instructional classes on using the database. For more information contact Lori Abbatepaolo at (631) 585-9393 ext. 295 or visit the database at www.211longisland.org.
