Solages wins new Assembly district
Michaelle Solages easily won the newly created Assembly District in Nassau County and will head to Albany next year. The Democrat from Elmont captured the 22nd District seat, which was created from parts of three existing districts.
She defeated challenger Sean Wright by a 2-to-1 margin. Solages has about 26,000 votes to 13,000 for Wright.
Wright, of North Valley Stream, is a registered Independent but received the Republican party's nomination. Solages won a three-way primary in September for the Democratic nod.
The 22nd Assembly District spans from Bellerose to North Woodmere along the Queens border.
In other local races, Dean Skelos won re-election to the State Senate and Carolyn McCarthy was sent to her ninth term in the House of Representatives. Gregory Meeks, who will now represent part of Nassau in the redrawn 5th Congressional District, also won re-election.
