South H.S. students teach healthy living to younger kids

Posted

Students from South High School visited the Brooklyn Avenue and William L. Buck Schools on January 13 to conduct wellness lessons with second-grade students.

The high schoolers, all of them athletes, taught the children about the importance of healthy living, exercise and good nutrition, and demonstrated how to practice healthy habits. The elementary school students sampled healthier food choices and participated in exercise demonstrations and presentations. The high school students also demonstrated how to read and interpret food labels.

Brooklyn Avenue School Principal Scott Comis said his students benefit from learning about wellness from older students. “They look up to them. Many of the high school students who come to present were former students here.”

The Valley Stream Wellness Committee organizes the annual activity.
