Two Central High School students were named semifinalists in the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship Program, the Valley Stream Central High School District announced on Monday.

Kayla Diedrick and Charles Luca were recently named semifinalists. The Scholarship Program, started in 1964, seeks to recognize academically promising black American students throughout the country. Diedrick and Luca are in the running for roughly 800 Achievement Scholarship awards, which will be given out this spring.

In order to move on to the next round, Diedrick and Luca must maintain a consistent record of academic performance, score well on the SAT exam and receive letters of recommendation.
