V.S. high schools receive high ratings from WaPo

Each of the Valley Stream Central High School District’s three high schools were ranked in the top 100 high schools in New York State in the most recent annual rankings published by the Washington Post.

Valley Stream Central South High School received the highest marks, rated 47th in the state, according to the Post’s rankings, which are based on the number of college-level tests, including advanced placement and international baccalaureate exams, administered at each school in the previous calendar year. That number is divided by the number of graduates for that specific year.

North High School was ranked 52nd, and Central High School was ranked 63rd.

In addition, each school placed favorably in the national rankings, with South High School ranked 600th, North ranked 656th and Central ranked 802nd out of more than 2,000 high schools that were rated.

Superintendent Bill Heidenreich congratulated the district’s students, faculty and staff, and thanked them for their hard work.

“Our district is proud to, once again, be recognized by The Washington Post for having several of the most challenging high schools in the state and nation,” he said. “It is impressive to have our schools ranked in the upper half of eligible schools statewide, and in the top third of those schools nationally. We have a strong academic program in the district, one that challenges and supports our students. And each year, students continue to reach new levels of academic excellence. I congratulate all of our high school building principals and respective faculty and staff for their continued efforts in fulfilling the district’s educational mission and ensuring our students continue to receive the finest education in our Valley Stream schools.”
