A Valley Stream native was promoted to Colonel in the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

Col. Mark Anthony Geraldi, an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Chaminade High School, has served three tours overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. He first joined the Army Corps of Engineers in May of 1993, when he was commissioned as an ROTC Distinguished Military graduate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, located in Troy.

The Army Corps of Engineers, created in 1775, has roughly 37,000 soldiers and civilians serving in more than 130 countries. They are responsible for building and maintaining the country’s infrastructure, researching and developing military technology and preparing for and responding to natural disasters.
