Valley Stream Baseball League honors coaches, teams at dinner

Posted

The Valley Stream Baseball League honored its championship teams at its annual Awards Night on Sept. 20 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall on Merrick Road.

The Red Sox, coached by Kyle Manning, took home the 10-and-under championship, named after New York Mets’ captain David Wright. The Seahawks and coach Nelson Martinez ended the season with the 12-and-under title, named for retiring New York Yankees’ captain Derek Jeter.

Valley Stream Baseball League President Bob Inzerillo thanked coaches and parent volunteers for their hard work over the course of the season. “People work two, sometimes three jobs, and for them to take time to help run our league or coach a team really does make them heroes to all of these kids,” he said.

More than 400 kids ranging from six to twelve years old played in the league this year, while many more played with its travel teams, the Hawks and the Colts.
