Valley Stream District 13 Foundation awards four scholarships

The Valley Stream District 13 Educational Foundation awarded four Valley Stream Union Free School District 13 graduates scholarships last month.

One student from each of the district’s four elementary schools was given a scholarship as they prepared to move to the Central High School District. The annual scholarship recognizes the top student from each school’s graduating class, as chosen by teachers at the school. Shannon Morgan of Dever Elementary, Zachary Ranftle of Howell Elementary, Tayler Talbert of Wheeler Elementary and Taylor Cirri of Willow Elementary were the 2014 scholarship recipients.

Sangeeta Pandit, vice president of the Valley Stream Educational Foundation, said that while the scholarships themselves are small awards, they serve as “a gesture from the District 13 Foundation for the best students in the sixth grade as they graduate and go on to the high school district.”

District 13 Superintendent Adrienne Robb-Fund thanked the foundation. “We are extremely grateful for the District 13 Foundation’s help in supporting our students.”
