Girl Scouts wrap gifts for those in need

Posted

Girl Scouts Troop 2011 in Valley Stream participated in “Operation Christmas Child” on Nov. 13 — a Samaritan’s Purse event that donates gifts to children around the holidays — for second year in a row.

“The American Legion graciously allows us to hold it there,” said Ann Corrao, Girl Scout Leader and Committeewoman for the Valley Stream Girl Scouts. “They gave us the room for nothing. We are very appreciative for them to do that because otherwise it would’ve cost us a lot of money.”

The girls donated gifts for recipients of different age groups and genders and attached personal letters. Corrao said about 150 boxes were donated to the Malverne Bible Church on Franklin Avenue.

“They loved it,” Corrao said of the scouts. “The way they feel when they’re packaging those shoeboxes and submitting their letter — they’re excited for who’s going to receive it.”
