The Valley Stream Board of Trustees honored the late owner of the beloved local eatery Goldie’s Restaurant on Monday for his more than 50 years of business in the village.

The board presented his wife, Midge Occhiuzzo, with a citation thanking her and her husband, Alfred “Goldie” Occhiuzzo, for their hard work at Goldie’s, which closed after Occhiuzzo died in January at the age of 90. The couple’s children, Donald Occhiuzzo, Kelly Zack and Kara Incantalipo were also on hand to receive the honor.

“It’s a very proud day for our family,” Incantalopo said. “We really never expected anything like this. My dad really loved being in Valley Stream, he even used to brag about how long he had been in the village. He loved that he had a lot of loyal customers and that people would come to his restaurant to celebrate their special occasions, and he loved to celebrate with them. He had live jazz music often, and he always loved hearing the local musicians play.”

I’m sure everyone who has lived in Valley Stream for a while remembers Goldie’s and remembers the man himself,” said Mayor Ed Fare. “Open for over 50 years in the Gibson area, it was really a treasure here in Valley Stream, and it was used for countless celebrations and social events in the half century they were in Valley Stream. This is not a sad remembrance but rather a celebration of his life and his impact.”
