Twenty-five emergency vehicles covered nearly 81 miles of roadway throughout the village as Monday’s blizzard continued into Tuesday, plowing, salting and laying down sand as they tried to stay ahead of the snow’s buildup.

Mayor Ed Fare issued a statement of gratitude to the village’s residents, who he said were patient and cooperative. He also commended village employees for their preparation and commitment to their duties during the storm.

“Our village workforce has worked around the clock clearing roads and pathways, access to the Long Island Railroad stations, parking lots, the library, the Community Center and, most especially, our five firehouses. Behind the scenes, our parks staff, building maintenance and administrative support teams have been busy keeping our village safe and accessible.”

Road crews operated around the clock in shifts, and village phone lines were staffed by emergency personnel and kept open through the night. No injuries or serious incidents were reported.
