Village Republicans honor member

Posted

The Valley Stream Republican Club held its St. Patrick’s Day dinner and officers’ installation at the American Legion hall in Valley Stream on March 13, where longtime village resident and employee Richard “Richie” Sullivan was honored.

“You mention his name to anyone, it brings a smile to their face,” said club member Sharon Daly. “I honestly don’t know anyone that doesn’t like him.”

Sullivan is the acting superintendent of public works. He moved to the village with his family in 1947 and graduated from the Holy Name of Mary School in 1955. He started working for the village in 1960 as a laborer and worked his way up.

He is a past president of the Republican Club, a 55-year member of the Valley Stream Fire Department, a board member at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament and a member of the St. Therese the Little Flower Council of the Knights of Columbus.

The club’s president, Valley Stream Building Superintendent Tom McAleer, was reinstated to the position for another one-year term, and the club’s other officers were sworn in.

Tickets to the event sold out, Daly said. More than 200 people attended.
