District 24 unveils new learning technology

Valley Stream School District 24 unveiled a suite of cutting-edge learning infrastructure at a ribbon cutting on March 19. The technology, which includes a set of interactive teaching tools from Belgium-based i3-Technologies, a business and education software and hardware firm, was made possible through a State Assembly grant secured by Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages.

After purchasing i3’s Learning Hub systems, District 24 was selected as the only school district in the United States to participate in the company’s i3-Technologies International Learning Community conference held in Belgium in January, where Dr. Lisa Conte, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, attended as a representative for the district.

The district’s administrators, and teachers then had the opportunity on March 19 to learn the full capabilities of the systems with the help of i3 representatives.

“This is about acknowledging that as our world and economy are becoming digitalized, it’s important that education also become digitalized to prepare our kids,” Schools Superintendent Dr. Donald Sturz said.

“We’ve often always asked children ‘what do want to be when you grow up?’” he added. “The question we should be asking now is ‘what problems do you want to solve?’ And I think this kind of approach is going to facilitate them developing the skills to solve the problems they identify.”
