Glenn M. Spielman died peacefully at his home on Nov. 25 with his loving and faithful family at his side. He was 78.

Born in Mineola on Feb. 15, 1939, Spielman was a life-long resident of Lynbrook. He was the son of the late Edward P. and Theta Morehouse Spielman. In 1960, he graduated from St. Lawrence University, in Canton, N.Y., with a bachelor’s degree. He later received his masters in business administration from Baruch College in New York City, and then his Masters in public health administration.

Spielman worked as the vice president of health services for the Geisinger Health Plan in Danville, Pa., for many years until his retirement in 2001. Always civic minded, Spielman was actively involved in the communities in which he lived. As such, he served as trustee and mayor of Lynbrook from 1975 to 1983. He was proud to have been a member of the Eagle Scout Review Board.

After retiring and relocating to the New York Capital District, he was an avid volunteer for the American Red Cross and had a number of roles within the organization. He was also a board member of the Capital Region Medical Research Foundation. In addition, he was a board member and former chairman for the American Cancer Society HopeClub’s Men to Men Support Group and a past board member of the Hudson Valley Health System Agency.

He also acted as a consultant for the Department of Defense’s Congressionally directed Prostate Cancer Research Program and for the American Cancer Society in allocating funding for cancer research.

Spielman is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Margaret Sweeney Spielman, whom he married on Oct. 6, 1962; his daughters Dr. Theta (Brian) Pattison, Deirdre E. Spielman, and Megan (David) Klein; his grandchildren, Emily, Andrew and Claire Young, Lindsay and Nicholas Pattison, Eliana and Taryn Klein; and loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward P. Spielman, Jr.

Spielman’s wake was held on Nov. 27 at Corpus Christi Church in Mineola. His funeral Mass and burial were on Nov. 28. Spielman’s family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society HopeClub of the Capital Region, Men to Men Program, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, N.Y. 12110 in his memory.
