‘Hometown Heroes’ show local scouts the ropes

Long Beach’s Cub Scout Pack 51 held a “Hometown Heroes Pack Meeting” on May 3, where first responders from various agencies spoke with scouts and showed them some of the tools and equipment they use.

All of the scouts were excited to meet and interact with the “Hometown Heroes” and learn more about what they do, said Cubmaster Patrick Maguire.

About 50 scouts — and their siblings — attended the event, which was held outside Lindell Elementary School, 601 Lindell Blvd.

The participating agencies included the Long Beach Fire Department, the Long Beach Police Department, the Long Beach Lifeguard Patrol, the MTA Police K-9 Team, the Nassau County Police Emergency Services Unit and the Nassau County Police Marine Bureau.

Each of the agencies sent first responders to speak with the pack and demonstrate various tools. Each agency set up a “station,” Maguire said, and the scouts went from station to station in groups based on their ages.
