Picnic at the park

The Light of Joy Cherubim & Seraphim Ministry is hosting their annual picnic on June 24 from noon to 10 p.m. at Valley Stream State Park. The picnic features uncommon foods such as roasted plantain, groundnut and roasted meat. There will also be games such as Ludo, table tennis, Ayo Olopon and a sack race. The picnic is free and open to the public.

Circus comes to Elmont

The Circus Guy is coming to Elmont Memorial Library on June 27 at 2 p.m. The circus is for children ages 2 and older with an adult. No registration is required. For more information contact Children’s Services at (516) 354- 5280 or email childrenservices@elmontlibrary.org.

‘Jurassic Park’ screening at Elmont

The Elmont Memorial Library will be screening ‘Jurassic Park’ for teenagers in grades 7 – 12 on June 28 at 3 p.m. The movie is rated PG-13 and features Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum as paleontologists who tour a theme park populated by dinosaurs. But the tour takes a turn for the worst as various predators break out of their cages and go on the hunt. Registration for the movie can be made online, in person or by calling (354) 5280 ext. 247. Preference will be given to Elmont library card holders.

The very model of a modern Major-General…

Hoist the mainsail and hang onto those parrots as “The Pirates of Penzance” returns to the area, presented by the Gilbert & Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island, Sunday, June 25, at 3 p.m., in East Meadow. The beloved opera features some of the most well known characters in the Gilbert & Sullivan pantheon, including the dashing but not-so-bright Pirate King, the gallant, Slave of Duty Frederic, the strong-willed, vocally ornate heroine Mabel and, of course, everyone’s favorite, the well-read but militarily clueless Major-General Stanley. Celebrating a ‘Midsummer Night’

Old Westbury Gardens is adorned for a summer celebration, Saturday June 24, at 6:30 p.m. Picnic and stroll the blooming gardens, decorated and illuminated by lanterns and whimsical decor, and enjoy an enchanting performance, danced by dancers from Lori Belilove and her acclaimed Isadora Duncan Dance Company.
