Each of the schools in the Malverne Union Free School District recognized members of its board of education in honor of October as Board Recognition Month at its meeting on Oct. 9.
In addition to videos, gifts and thank-you cards, Maurice W. Downing’s Student Council members came to the meeting to personally share a special poem. The poem covered some of the key components to being a friend:
Someone who is always there for you.
Someone who you can rely on.
Someone who inspires you.

Someone who is neighborly.
Someone you can depend on.
Someone who shows support.
“We talked about the camaraderie that we don’t see too often in today’s world,” said Student Council adviser Marguerite Robles. Robles added that the Student Council incorporated the song, “I’ll Be There for You,” from the sitcom, “Friends,” for its message to the board.
“This is our future, and we can’t our board enough for always supporting us,” said Downing School Principal Ed Tallon.
