Free health screening

On March 24, the Elmont Memorial Library will be hosting a St. Francis Outreach bus to screen patients from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a cardiac history, blood pressure and to test cholesterol and for diabetes. Patients must be over 18 or older. St. Francis will also provide free referrals. No registration or appointment is required.

Celebrate Dr. Seuss

On March 25, the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library will be celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Children between the grades of kindergarten and second-grade are invited to highlight his achievements with games and activities. Registration is required and preference will be given to Valley Stream library cardholders.

Italian for kids

On March 30, the Elmont Memorial Library will be teaching children from third to sixth-grade basic Italian from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration is required. For more information, call (516) 354 – 5280 ext. 1005.

Spring forward by checking out the action along Hempstead Bay on a sail aboard the Captain Lou Fleet out of Freeport to view the harbor seal populations that spend their winter heres. A naturalist is on board to lead a discussion the behavior of these fascinating creatures, Friday and Saturday. All proceeds support the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research & Preservation.
