North High School interim principal to retire

For more than 20 years, David Trizano worked in the administrations of both Central High School and North High School. But on March 13, the Board of Education approved his request for retirement.
“I would like to congratulate Mr. Trizano on his retirement and thank him for his years of service,” Superintendent Bill Heidenreich said in a statement. “We wish him the best.”
From 1986–90, Trizano worked as an administrative associate and as an assistant principal at Central High School. He then served at several other Nassau County schools, until about 20 years ago when he returned to the district to work as an assistant principal at North High School. Last year, Trizano was also appointed to serve as North High School’s interim principal, following former principal James Bolen’s decision to accept a principal position at Cold Spring Harbor High School.
During his time at North High School, Trizano helped introduce the school’s pre-prom event, which is sponsored by the Parent Teacher Association and the Spartan Club. He also worked with social worker Karen Erlich to start the “Excellence in Education” program, which honors students who contribute to life at North High School. He also headed the Pupil Personnel Services.
As an assistant principal, Trizano also had to meet with students who were in some kind of trouble. In those meetings, Trizano would tell the student, “The only thing I can provide you with is opportunity.”

Former students have told Trizano that he has made a lasting impact in their lives. “That’s a nice thing to hear,” he said.
Trizano also started a professional development program for more than 100 teachers in the school. “He definitely is an instructional visionary and leader,” said Jennifer Buonaspina, an assistant principal at North High School. “I think that type of legacy is important.”
Throughout everything he did, he would keep his sense of humor. “No matter what I faced, it was a pretty good day,” Trizano said. “Challenging, but a pretty good day.”
He said he is not sure what he will do in retirement, but he would like to continue to work. “I definitely plan to work or do something else,” he said. “But
I’m not quite sure what that something else is yet.”
No matter what he decides to do, Buonaspina said, he will be missed at North High School. “We hope he comes back to visit,” she said.
