Hurricane Aftermath

Restaurant helps those who help

Since Hurricane Sandy hit late last month, thousands of people have flocked to the area to hand out supplies and help those in need. For all their support, one local business owner wanted to do something nice for members of the National Guard who are stationed on Long Island to show her appreciation.

Cashmere Rios, owner of Mia’s Restaurant on Rockaway Avenue, invited 100 members of the National Guard to her restaurant for some authentic Italian food last week.

“I felt the right thing to do for them was to invite them over to my restaurant for a nice, hot meal,” she said. Rios, who lives in Long Beach, said the National Guard has done a great job in getting supplies to people and keeping residents safe in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
