The Valley Stream South girls’ soccer team was honored at the Valley Stream Central High School District’s Board of Education meeting on Nov. 13 for its first state championship win.

The Lady Falcons won the state championship in overtime on Nov. 11 against eighth-ranked Jamesville-Dewitt. The team is now the fourth ranked girls’ soccer team in the United States and it completed its season 21-0. “These girls continue to defy odds,” coach Demetri Adrahtas said at the Board of Education meeting.

Adrahtas continued by saying that the Lady Falcons would not have been successful without the support of the Valley Stream community. “The girls really wanted me to stress that they fed off of your passion, your pride, your spirit,” he said. “It meant so much for us to win it for Valley Stream.”
