Our wish list for Christmas
Adopting a pet
There are hundreds of animals in shelters and with rescue groups that need good homes. So many cats and dogs are waiting for the right people to free them from their cages and welcome them to loving households. People who have room for a pet in their life should consider adopting one.

Lending a helping hand
Local clubs, organizations and support groups can always use volunteers. Kiwanis clubs, the Knights of Columbus, food pantries, churches and veterans’ organizations are constantly on the lookout for new members or people to help out. We need more residents to heed that call.

Kudos to the editors for including inBloom on your "Wish list for Christmas" (12/19/13). The wholesale uploading of sensitive and potentially damaging data about our children is unconscionable given what we know about Wikileaks, the NSA and now the Target fiasco. Parents, teachers and now many NY State legislators adamantly oppose inBloom. It appears that its only defenders are the corporations which stand to make a profit from exploiting the data and school superintendents who are so intent on courting favor with the State Education Department that they are unable to admit the lurking dangers of this foolish experiment.
