PSEG brings personal service to Seaford

Since taking over the operation of Long Island’s electrical grid at the beginning of the year, PSEG officials have said that customer service would be a top priority. Residents of the South Shore will be able to experience that service right in Seaford.

PSEG Long Island opened a customer service center at 3524 Merrick Road, just east of Willoughby Avenue. The 4,200-square foot facility opened on Sept. 15, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Sept. 30.

“We are extremely excited to be opening this new office,” said Dan Eichhorn, vice president of customer service for PSEG. “We want it to be a nice, pleasurable experience for our customers.”

The main entrance for the customer service center is located in the back of the building, adjacent to the parking lot. There is a lobby with teller windows, and customers can go in for a variety of reasons. Eichhorn said they will be able to pay their bills, report a power outage, start or stop service, or ask any questions. Commercial customers can open up new accounts.

“The staff if highly trained,” he said, noting that all representatives at the Seaford location previously worked in other customer service centers.

PSEG has 11 offices like this across Long Island, with a 12th expected to open up soon in the Rockaways. About 45,000 people visit one of these customer service centers every month.

Eichhorn said that the location was chosen for several reasons. It is highly visible as it is situated on a main road, has ample parking, and can serve residents in several surrounding communities. The creation of a customer service center in Seaford was in the works for nearly a year. “We looked a number of locations,” Eichhorn said. “We thought it was convenient.”

Suzanne Brienza, director of revenue operations, said that many people like to pay their bills in person, so it is important to have centers like this in accessible locations. She noted that customers often have questions about their bills, and prefer talking to someone face to face. They can also stop into the center to get advice on how to make their homes more energy efficient.

Eichhorn said he hopes that residents of the area will take advantage of the facility. “It’s just another avenue for customers to do business with us,” he said. “Customer satisfaction is very important to us. It’s something that we hold near and dear to our hearts.”

The facility is open on weekdays, excluding holidays, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
