Some special friends gather together at Disney on Ice’s ‘Let’s Celebrate’

Audiences get a taste of New Orleans, where Tiana’s story takes place, in a Mardi Gras performance that is packed with upbeat jazz-influenced choreography and music. In the Valentine’s Day segment, seven pairs of Disney princesses and princes skate to contemporary remixes of classic songs from each princesses story and then come together for a large number to “That’s How You Know” from Walt Disney Pictures “Enchanted.” At a Very Merry UnBirthday Party, a fast-paced skating frenzy ensues as the characters toss around the Mad Hatter’s hat. Then a uniquely choreographed precision skating number follows with Sorcerer Mickey bringing 15 skaters in broom costumes to life and sweeping across the ice in a synchronized formation.
“The production numbers revolve around the celebrations which are not necessarily part of the Disney stories we have worked with in the past,” said choreographer Cindy Stuart. “Every number is new and different from the others.”
And that is what makes this Disney spectacle so appealing to audiences, according to skater Bianca Butler, who appears as Belle and Jasmine. “We think of this as a variety show,” she said. “It’s a good show for both boys and girls. It has so many different elements that it appeals to a completely different audience than some of other Disney on Ice shows.”
Of course, the princess segment — the Royal Ball — always gets a huge response. But there are plenty of other elements that grab everyone’s attention. “There’s a great Halloween section,” Butler enthused, with terrific villains that really fits in well right now. The luau with Lilo and Stitch is lots of fun, as is the Unbirthday Party with Alice, the Mad Hatter and Mickey and Minne.”
The second act takes audiences around the world, showcasing a Chinese New Year celebration with Mulan, a Cherry Blossom Festival, and a Winter Wonderland segment, involving the Toy Story gang.
“It all keeps audiences on the edge of their seats waiting to see what’s coming next,” Butler said.
