Family Fun

Super Scientific Circus
The Super Scientific Circus proves that science can be fun and funny, with Mr. Fish and Trent the Mime as your hosts. Alternately assisted and foiled by Trent’s comedic antics, Mr. Fish uses his circus skills — involving boomerangs, bubbles, beach balls, bullwhips and magic — to demonstrate the principles of science. The audience learns about friction, inertia, centrifugal force, aerodynamics, sonic booms, air pressure, and ultraviolet light. You can also find out how to make and throw your own boomerang, blow giant soap bubbles, and how to put a needle through a balloon without popping the balloon, among other fascinating science “tricks.”
Sunday, Oct. 16, 3 p.m. $18. Jeanne Rimsky Theater at Landmark on Main Street, 232 Main St., Port Washington. (516) 767-6444 or www.landmarkonmainstreet.org.

Art Adventures

NCMA’s Family Day
Enjoy a crisp fall day at Nassau County Museum of Art, both indoors and out. Take the kids on a docent-led walk-through of the current exhibition (now in its final weeks) “A Feast for the Eyes,” which explores how food inspires artists. Converse, collaborate and create during supervised art activities, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Art projects draw inspiration from the exhibit’s many works showing food and feasting. Also, spend some time in NCMA’s sculpture park, which features over 50 pieces, of all sizes. For more outdoor fun, stroll along a nature trail among the museum’s 145 acres, ideal for family hikes, full of seasonal color.
Sunday, Oct. 16,, 1 p.m. Free with museum admission. $12, $8 seniors, $4 students and children. One Museum Dr. (off Northern Blvd.), Roslyn Harbor. (516) 484-9337 or www.nassaumuseum.com.
