Wantagh Homecoming parade, game are Saturday

Posted

The Wantagh Sports Booster Club invites all members of the community to Wantagh High School’s Homecoming celebration this Saturday, Oct. 18.

The festivities begin at 1 p.m. with the parade. Wantagh High School students selected this year’s theme, “Books.” The parade will feature floats from the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes. Along with the student clubs, members of other organizations throughout Wantagh will be participating. The parade will begin on the corner of Bunker and Wantagh avenues and will proceed north to the athletic field at Wantagh High School. There will be street closures because of the parade.

Joe DelGais has been selected as this year’s grand marshal. DelGais and his wife, Marie, have lived in Wantagh for 47 years and raised their three children in the community — Joe class of 1982, Kathy class of 1986 and Jennifer class of 1993 all who were accomplished athletes. Some of his grandchildren are currently attending Wantagh schools.

Delgais taught for 33 years in Baldwin and is now a substitute teacher for Wantagh and coaches seventh-grade football.

The varsity football game begins at 3 p.m. as the Warriors will face Calhoun High School. At half-time, fans will be entertained by the musical talents of the high school marching band and color guard, as well as the athletic talents of the varsity cheerleaders and varsity dance team. In addition, the winners of the float completion will be announced, and the Homecoming king and queen and their court will be named.

The Booster Club will have tables set up with clothing and accessories throughout the event at the field, and the Snack Shack will be open for business. Cash and checks will be accepted.
