Wantagh Library budget passes

Posted

Voters, by better than a 2-to-1 margin, approved the Wantagh Public Library’s $2.47 million spending plan on April 28.

There were 114 votes in favor of the budget, and 51 against. The tax levy will rise by 1.67 percent when the budget takes effect on July 1.

“I’d like to thank the community for passing the budget,” Library Director Maggie Marino said, “and I’m looking forward to being better next year.”

The budget includes funding to make Wantagh a Family Place Library, as well as money for additional books, audio books and museum passes, and a new security system. Funds would also be set aside for future roof and heating and air conditioning system repairs.

Ralph Spagnola ran unopposed for a second five-year term on the library Board of Trustees and received 129 votes.
