Warrior pride was in full force on Oct. 18 as Wantagh High School hosted its annual Homecoming celebration.

The festivities began with a parade up Wantagh Avenue featuring school officials, cheerleaders, the marching band, floats and local organizations. The event was organized by the Booster Club, which sold Wantagh apparel at the high school.

The crowd watching the parade was especially thick at the corner of Wantagh and Beltagh avenues, and many were clad in the school colors of black and gold. Before the games against the Calhoun Colts, senior cheerleaders, dancers and football players were introduced and escorted across the field by their parents.

At halftime, the Homecoming King and Queen, Anthony Sinacori and Megan Pennino, were introduced. The senior class won the float competition. This year’s theme was “Books.”

In the Homecoming Game, the Warriors defeated the Colts, 34-14, upping their season record to 3-3. The team was boosted by Vinny Vasheo’s 112 yards rushing, including an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Wantagh plays its next game on the road this Saturday afternoon against Elmont.
