The Wantagh school district celebrated its annual homecoming on Saturday, September 29.

The celebrations began with a pep rally on Friday afternoon, and the homecoming court and sports teams were introduced. Students wore sports jerseys and other outfits in the school’s gold and black colors to show their “Warrior pride.”

The homecoming parade kicked off the Saturday festivities as board game-themed class floats were led down Wantagh Avenue to the football field in a parade that included the marching band, cheerleaders and members of the Wantagh Board of Education and Central Administration. The football game pitted Wantagh against Plainedge High School from Massapequa.

The national anthem was led by the wind ensemble trombone quartet. During the halftime show, cheerleaders and the dance team motivated an already upbeat crowd, and the marching band gave a flawless performance of “Innovation” and “Seven Nation Army” under the direction of Dan Aviles. Carlo Tobia and Arianna Benedetto were crowned homecoming king and queen. First runners-up included Diana Putrino and Michael Conti, and the second runner-up was Casey O’Connor.

The Warriors lived up to their name, even though the team fell short, dropping the game to Plainedge with a score of 28-21.
