A fire engulfed the bedroom of a home on Coolidge Avenue in Lakeview this afternoon, sending one woman to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Upon the fire department’s arrival, the woman was just making her way out of the burning house. “She was saying, ‘my house is on fire; my house is on fire’ and was having trouble breathing,” said Chief Fred Senti of the Lakeview Fire Department. The woman was transported by ambulance to Winthrop-University Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire was reported by a neighbor, Senti said, and the fire marshall determined the cause of the fire was electrical.

All searches for additional victims were negative.

Mutual aid was rendered from several different fire departments, including Rockville Centre, West Hempstead, East Rockaway and Malverne.
