Letters to the Editor: East Rockaway, Lynbrook
(Page 2 of 2)
The American Camp Association of New York and New Jersey is giving out hundreds of camp scholarships through its Heal the Children program to children affected by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
This program is a wonderful opportunity for families and children are still trying to regain a sense of normalcy in their lives. I applaud the American Camp Association for its generosity in giving these children, who have weathered many difficulties, a chance to enjoy the summer months.
The association of New York is working with local relief agencies to identify children in the most devastated regions who would benefit from a summer camp experience through the program. To be eligible for the Heal the Children program and to receive a camp scholarship, families must meet the following criteria:
Combined household income of $90,000 or below;
Loss of primary residence for 90 days or more; and
Income cut by half or more for almost three months.
For further information on applying for the scholarships, please call the American Camp Association at (212) 391-5208.
