Prepping for the primaries

With such an important, highly visible election coming up later this year, you would think the local political clubs in Malverne and West Hempstead would be interested in talking about their preparations for the upcoming primaries.

It seems, however, that only the Lakeview Democratic Club had a game plan in place and wanted to talk about their support of candidate Hillary Clinton.

“We’re having an event on the 17th of April at 3 p.m.,” said H. Scottie Coads, NAACP, Civil Engagement Leader, and head of the Lakeview Democratic Club. “We’re going to rally first on Woodfield Road in the vicinity of Harold Walker Park,” she added. After the rally — at about 4 p.m. — the group will have a meeting inside the Harold Walker Park meeting room, which will feature several guest speakers and invited guests that Coads could not disclose yet. The event is being promoted in the Hempstead, Freeport, Uniondale and other communities.

Coads said that the Lakeview Democratic Club, which is over 30 years old, is “one of the oldest thriving, and surviving, democratic clubs” in Nassau County. The club has its monthly meeting each third Thursday of the month at Harold Walker Park.

In addition to the rally and meetings, Coads added that the group would eventually be doing a community outreach effort to support Clinton. “We’re in the process of putting together a package we’ll be giving to people who will cover every home in Lakeview with information about the secretary of state,” she said.
