A discussion on religion and science

The Malverne Jewish Center will host a discussion on faith and science, and how the two can coexist, on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Rabbi Geoff Mitelman, the founding director of Sinai & Synapses will lead the meeting to explore this idea to share his insight.

“Sinai & Synapses bridges the worlds of religion and science and we look at some of the most interesting, important, and controversial questions that we face in the world,” Mitelman said. “We look to see how we can connect wisdom from science and religion in order to enhance ourselves and our lives.”

Mitelman added that while the focus of his presentation will focus on the coexistence of these two subjects, he would like to spark a passion for Judaism.

“Something that we sometimes say is that the challenge in the Jewish community is not to get Jews excited about science,” Mitelman said, “it’s to get excited about Judaism.”

Since 2013, Sinai & Synapses has conducted presentations throughout the U.S. and they have put together numerous projects to further their studies in religion and science.

“Our hope is that at the end of the evening, our guest are going to feel both intellectually nourished and spiritually inspired,” Mitelman said. “We also hope that they can come away with new thoughts on the interaction between science and religion.”

Located at 1 Norwood Ave. in Malverne, the event is $15 per person; $12 for MJC members; $18 at the door. For more information on the discussion, call (516) 593-6364 or visit www.malvernejc.org.
