Dr. Daniel Charnoff has practiced internal medicine in Brooklyn for more than 30 years. As a resident of the Five Towns, he noted a shortage of experienced primary care physicians on Long Island. Hence, he built a brand new medical office and opened a satellite practice in Woodmere. And, for the past few years, he has also been licensed to treat eligible patients with medicinal marijuana.
As an internist whose experience spans many serious conditions and disorders, including heart disease, hypertension, asthma, digestive issues, and diabetes, Dr. Charnoff advocates preventive care, which he feels is essential to good health. He encourages each patient to come in for wellness checkups — blood work, electrocardiogram, etc. — and not wait until he or she becomes sick. Once information is gathered and evaluated, a plan for follow-up care (if needed) is arranged. By being proactive, serious illness can often be avoided.
Being able to offer pharmaceutical grade marijuana as an alternative therapy has been extremely helpful to a select number of Dr. Charnoff’s patients. Many of his patients, especially the older ones, suffer from issues connected with multiple sclerosis, cancer, Parkinson’s, epilepsy, glaucoma, gastro-intestinal disorders, HIV, PTSD, opiate dependency, and chronic pain from numerous sources. Medical marijuana can help alleviate discomfort, and is prescribed in liquid form or capsules and administered under the tongue or by a vaporizer.
Pharmaceutical grade marijuana can be legally prescribed in New York. As a highly qualified practitioner, Dr. Charnoff makes sure that patients are eligible to receive it. “Medical marijuana is an alternative therapy that does help with most types of chronic pain,” he said.
Dr. Charnoff attended Downstate Medical School and is affiliated with Brooklyn’s Mount Sinai Hospital. He treats patients who are ages 15 years and up. While he continues his medical practice in Brooklyn, he sees patients in his Woodmere office by appointment only. Sunday hours are available. An answering service picks up 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Most insurance plans are accepted, and reasonable self-pay rates are offered as well.
