Man arrested for drug possession, driving impaired in West Hempstead

Nassau policed reported the arrest of Anthony Grassi, of Floral Park, for an incident that occurred on July 27, at 8:24 p.m. in West Hempstead.
According to police, Fifth Precinct officers initiated a car stop on a vehicle that was observed failing to maintain its lane. Officers were able to stop the vehicle on Hempstead Turnpike near the intersection of Broadway. After having the driver, Grassi, 21, exit his vehicle, he ran from the scene with officers chasing after him. During the foot pursuit and eventual apprehension of Grassi, two officers sustained minor injuries and they were treated in an area hospital.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Grassi was operating the vehicle in an impaired manner. In his vehicle, officers discovered 84 small plastic bags containing cocaine, a black scale and a container of pepper spray.
Grassi was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of assault, driving while ability impaired and two vehicle and traffic law violations.
