Victim led police to thief after Valley Stream robbery

Shortly after being robbed at gunpoint on March 29, a man followed his attacker and helped police find him, according to a news release.

Police arrested Jeremy Singleton, 30, of Pacific Street in Brooklyn, for a robbery that happened outside the Green Acres Mall.

According to police, the driver of a 2016 Ford Omnibus van, was dropping off passengers at the mall when Singleton, remained in the van and claimed he wanted to return to Queens. As the driver turned the vehicle around, Singleton allegedly moved behind min, put a gun to his head and demanded money.

The driver complied, pulled over and exited the van. Singleton then drove eastward. The van driver flagged down a passerby, and asked him to follow his van while he called the police. The passerby and victim followed the defendant to 650 W. Sunrise Hwy. in Freeport, where Singleton parked the van and fled on foot.

Police said they located Singleton in the area, and after a foot pursuit, were able to apprehend him and place him under arrest. No injuries were reported. A handgun and proceeds from the robbery were recovered upon his arrest.
