Walk-a-thon to support veterans in Malverne

Posted

Last Sunday, residents of all ages took part in the inaugural Veterans Walk-A-Thon, hosted by the Sons of the American Legion at Malverne Post 44 and Ladies Auxiliary Unit 44. Veterans of the post, accompanied by Assemblyman Brian Curran, walked with children along Franklin Ave. on what turned out to be a sunny afternoon. The Malverne Police Reserve also showed their support during the walk as they followed the group.
The group’s slogan for the walk was, “They march for us, we walk for them.” All proceeds helped to fund veterans’ needs at the VAMC, NY State Veterans Homes and the Fisher House. Through the walk, Post 44 collected $800 in donations from people of the community.
