West Hempstead woman arrested for DWI

The NCPD reported the arrest of West Hempstead resident Karen Hernandez for driving while intoxicated in Uniondale on Aug. 3. at 11:05 p.m.

According to police, Hernandez, 38, of 54 Morton Avenue, was observed violating state vehicular and traffic laws while operating a tan Suzuki east on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard. After police investigated the vicinity of Earle Ovington Boulevard, it was discovered that Hernandez had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, glassy eyes and slurred speech. The defendant was placed under arrest without incident. Hernandez had her 10-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son seated in the front and rear passenger seat. The children were released to family guardians.

Hernandez is charged with two counts of aggravated driving while Intoxicated, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated and various traffic infractions. She was arraigned on Aug. 4 at First District Court in Hempstead.
