Woman attacked in Hempstead Lake State Park

A 21-year-old woman said she was attacked by a man in Hempstead Lake State Park in West Hempstead on April 12, New York State police said.

“She was grabbed by an unknown male while jogging southbound on the bridal trail south of the pedestrian bridge Friday afternoon,” Deputy Public Information Officer Dan Keefe stated in a news release. “She was able to break free from the male subject by kicking him. New York State Park Police Units are currently canvassing the area in and around Hempstead Lake State Park.

The man is described as white or Hispanic in his late 50s or early 60s with brown hair and roughly 6-feet tall with a thin build, short gray hair, scruffy beard, freckles, large prescription glasses, patchy weathered skin and wearing gray sweatpants, a black jacket and gray sneakers.
