Homecoming reminds West Hempstead that Broncos are back

Posted

The West Hempstead Broncos held their homecoming  last week and West Hempstead Youth Football League President  Tony DiLorenzo said turnout was great and the day was a success.

State Sen. Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) and representatives from Assemblyman Tom Alfano’s office turned out, as did the  Marine Color Guard and dozens of parents, including a local DJ who provided music throughout the day.

"Basically, it’s just to show the community that the organization is alive and well, and we’re promoting good sportsmanship," DiLorenzo said. "Our mantra — good sportsmanship, teamwork and community involvement. The organization is set up for the kids to benefit and learn about football and how to handle themselves outside of the football field, in the classroom. That’s what we try to do: we try to teach them to become better people.”

Broncos players and cheerleaders range in age from six to 13. There are about 80 players and 40 cheerleaders.
