Comedy Night brings the laughs to Rockville Centre

The Sisterhood at B’Nai Shalom-Beth David kicked off its year of programming with a Comedy Night on Nov. 8.

More than 60 people, including members, their friends and family members, gathered in the Knesset Room for the first time in more than a year to share an evening of laughs. Linda Schwartz, who serves as the co-president of the Sisterhood alongside Alyce Goostein, welcomed everyone and told them to “take themselves off mute,” so “we can laugh together.”

Six comics then hit the stage, including Valerie Libasci, Karin Margaret, Linda DeSantis, Bruce Lipsky, Donna Moran and headliner Ellen Orchid, who each provided their comical insights into marriage, dating, getting older and other vagaries of life. The Sisterhood’s Tracey B. Simon kept the party going between performers with her brand of humor, and Rabbi David Lerner also got into the act, closing the evening with a joke.

“Sisterhood’s comedy night was truly a team effort with many people participating, whether behind the scenes or at the event,” Schwartz said. “We missed those of you who couldn’t attend.”

Schwartz thanked Simon for serving as master of ceremonies and managing the talent, and for helping her and Ira Salwen organize the event. She also thanked Maxine Geller for coming up with the idea of the event, Caryn Morgenbesser and Karen Skolnick for decorating, Nancy Hochhauser for making check-in sheets and a membership list, the crew of Elisa Skolnick, Sandy Friedman (also our expert treasurer), Cece Friedman, Bonnie Friedman, Florence Lubitz, and Lisa Mack for serving as check-in greeters and organizing raffles, Jill Kaplan for arranging the Judaica sale and Alica Purus, Joan Sidney, Sharon Fiend and Judy Greenberg for working at the table.
